I accidentally ended up in a mushroom WhatsApp group this autumn and accidentally found the most spectacular way to enjoy the change of season instead of just mourning summer and feeling very depressed.
These are the last few beauties of the season from Highgate Woods, have been told there is still some fungus to enjoy through winter – jellyears specifically I’ve been told to look out for…
No idea what any of these are, I assume toxic. But I had no plans to forage any in the city of London, too small a space makes it unsustainable plus most of the tasty ones are off dog walking paths. I’m spending the rest of this year hyperfixating on mycology and looking forward to getting out of London next year to do some proper foraging!

A gallery with all the species I’ve identified this year incoming. Xx
